Something hit my parked car. How do I find the clip?

Is it free?

Reviewing, organizing, and clearing your drive is free, with no account. Curbwatch Pro is a one-time purchase through the Mac App Store, $9.99 at launch, Family Sharing included. It unlocks the on-device scan and export. There's no subscription.

What footage does Curbwatch support?

Drives written by Tesla vehicles — Sentry Mode events, Dashcam saves, and recent clips — across hardware generations and camera sets. Curbwatch reads what's actually on the drive rather than assuming a fixed layout, so unusual or partial recordings still show up.

Does it work with other dashcams?

No. Curbwatch reads the TeslaCam folder layout only: Sentry Mode, Dashcam, and recent clips on the USB drive a Tesla writes to. Footage from other dashcam brands won't show up.

Where do deleted clips go?

Rejected clips are moved into a .CurbwatchTrash staging folder on the drive itself. Nothing is permanently deleted until you empty the trash in Curbwatch — until then, everything is recoverable.

Why do some clips show a lock?

Since software 2026.20 (late May 2026), most cars encrypt new dashcam and Sentry clips by default. Curbwatch spots them and shows a lock instead of calling them corrupt. It can still list them, put them on the map, and delete them. It can't play them. To watch or download one, sign in at dashcam.tesla.com with your Tesla account and plug the drive in. Want future clips unencrypted? In the car, go to Controls, then Safety, and turn off Encrypt Dashcam Recordings. Clips already on the drive stay encrypted. Find the clip has the longer version.

Does my footage get uploaded anywhere?

No. Your footage and your keep-or-trash decisions never leave your Mac. If you turn on Apple Maps, Curbwatch sends each event's approximate location to Apple to draw the map and name the place. That's off until you say yes, and you can switch it off again any time in Settings → Privacy. The privacy policy has the full picture.
